Congress has a constitutional duty to check executive overreach. When it refuses to act, it leaves the American people exposed to the ambitions of any president who is willing to test the limits.
Too many members of Congress behave as if their primary job is to deny the other party power rather than to serve the nation. That incentive structure encourages silence when the Constitution most needs their voice.
At the same time, Trump has shown a willingness to use the machinery of government against those who oppose him. Reporting shows repeated attempts to push the Department of Justice to pursue James Comey, even after prior investigations found no basis for charges. The message to others is unmistakable.
Congress will not rediscover its constitutional backbone unless the American people insist on it. Members of Congress respond to pressure — and right now, they are not feeling enough pressure from the people they serve.
I believe the only way to restrain Trump — or any president who pushes beyond constitutional limits — is for the public to demand that Congress do its job.
I want to hear your ideas.
How do we get this message across to Congress in a way they cannot ignore? What would it take for them to put constitutional duty above partisan advantage?
Share your thoughts. This is a conversation we need to have — and a responsibility we all share.
If you believe Congress must reclaim its constitutional role, add your voice. Leave a comment, share your ideas, and help shape the strategy. Our representatives work for us — and it’s time they remembered it.
